Sielmat Bible College (SBC) held the inaugural Watkin R. Roberts Memorial Lecture on 21st August, 2026, marking the launch of a new annual lecture series beginning with the 2026 academic session.
The lecture, held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the SBC Conference Hall cum Prayer Hall, carried the theme “Sustainable Mission and Indigenous Church: Reclaiming the Vision of Watkin R. Roberts Focusing on the Indigenous Church.”
The guest speaker for the occasion was Prof. Dr. Jangkholam Haokip, Director of the Bethesda Khankho Institute (Indigenous Study Centre) and former Head of Department at Union Biblical Seminary (UBS). Prof. Haokip delivered an address centered on sustainable mission practice and the role of the indigenous church, drawing on the legacy and vision of Watkin R. Roberts.
The event was attended by several notable members of the academic community.
The Watkin R. Roberts Memorial Lecture is set to become an annual feature of SBC’s academic calendar, honoring the missionary legacy of Watkin R. Roberts and encouraging continued reflection on indigenous church and mission theology.
