The District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU), Churachandpur, held a special HIV/AIDS Awareness Program at the SBC Chapel today, drawing the attention of students and faculty alike. The initiative aimed to equip young people, particularly theological students, with accurate knowledge and deeper awareness of the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis in the Northeast.

During the session, resource persons from DAPCU highlighted alarming statistics: Mizoram currently has the highest prevalence of HIV/AIDS cases in India, followed closely by Manipur. Experts noted that cultural practices, lifestyle patterns, and social vulnerabilities remain significant contributing factors to the spread of the disease in the region.

The interactive program challenged theological students to reflect on the role of the Church and Christian ministry in responding to the crisis. “Awareness is not only medical; it is also moral, spiritual, and social. Future leaders must be prepared to address these realities,” one speaker emphasized.

Students expressed appreciation for the session, acknowledging that it not only broadened their understanding but also posed fresh challenges for their future ministries, particularly in serving communities affected by HIV/AIDS.
